  Reasearch if you havent already on keywords what you are wanting to rank for.
  
  Then start with content on site seo first ge tthat exactly how you want it,
  
  Then start working or conecentrating more should i say on off site seo basic link building - back links, directories, articles, blogs, forums etc..

  For any new website it take nearly 4 months for 3 to 5 crawls by google ,yahoo, ask so u can predict good results after 4 months of quality work behind your site

  For the first 3 months of any SEO campaign:
  
  1) Get the basics of on-site optimisation done on your pages
  
  2) Content, content, content > It's the way to Google's heart and more efficient rankings in the first 3-6 months, write lots, frequently and make sure its good, link worthy, interesting stuff - easier said than done I know.
  
  3) Start that link building! Easiest thing is, inquiring about guest blogging, starting your social channels off (Twitter and FaceBook are now part of Google's rankings), directory and article submissions.
  
  - Pretty much what has already been said here, but thought I would chip in!!!

  There are a lot of possible link building campaigns you can do in 3 months time.

  For any New born Site the following three tactics I prefer to perform as per my knowledge. They are:
  
  1. I would write a Unique and Informative content--coz this is very much like by google to crawled
  2. Do all basic SEO Onpage task for my site.
  3. Do lots of SEO Offpage task for link building on ragular basis.
  4. Do SMO which is also equally important
