Trouble with SEO on my site because there is a site with a simular name......really?!?!?!?

The guy that I hired to handle my website appears to have done nothing over the last year. Now he is telling me that I can not optimize my site because my site thekeefelawgroup.com is too close another site keefelawgroup.com .. That doesn't sound right to me. Is this possible? or should I get a new person?

    I'm also facing similar problem with my website, the only difference in between two urls is the extn of both domain is different, also the second website getting much traffic than my website for major keywords, The main thing is my website is official website and the second website is unofficial website. I'm a SEO person doing my all efforts but still my website appearing after this website in SERP for major keywords. So the above post is much useful for me, waiting for suggestions.

    SERP has nothing to do with similar sounding websites. If you do on-site and off-site optimization it will benefit your site. The only problem I envision is that your emails will go to them and their emails will come to them. I have a site that is www.sonimotorsthailand.com that is owned by my employers and there is another site that is owned by Soni Motors in another part of the world and we rank differently. They get emails meant for us all the time and forward them to us and we return the favor. A lot of Indian SEO firms are pretty inexpensive and many know what they are doing and can get your site ranking high in very litle time.
