  Comments in blogs are considered by some as white hat SEO as link farms. If you simply drop a comment with a link and have no consistent presence on a blog then your comment intentions will become quickly apparent. If you build up a greater visible presence organically through thoughtful, informative comments then you can capitalise on that reputation and eventually draw links to you.
