what is trackback url?

When I bookmarking, some times there is a field, "You can add or change the trackback url if it has been detected automatically". So what is trackback url?

A trackback URL is where somebody posts a link to their site on your site. In return, they have posted a link to your site on their site and have copied an article you have written.

Trackback URL is the process of sending notification when somebody links to one of their document that is called trackback URL.

Simply trackback is an acknowledgment sent via a network signal called ping from the originating site to the receiving site. The receptor often publishes a link back to the originator indicating its worthiness. Trackback requires both sites to be trackback-enabled in order to establish this communication.

Each post has its own trackback URL, assuming you use a software package that accepts trackbacks (or the WordPress variant, pingbacks). The idea is that someone linking to your post will send a trackback to that URL, which will notify you of the link and (depending on options) post their link at the bottom of your post.

I had seen trackback url on many sites including seoforums.org but I've never think about that. Thanks for the information and i am looking forward to more information so Expert please share your knowledge here.

Normally webmaster ignore the Trackback URL options when they are going to post a link from another site like forums etc.
