    No, Dave. Google Places and Google Maps are different from each other. Google Places is much more similar to Yelp and other business review/locator site.

    Firstly when we optimized our Website Business in Google Places we have to registered in "Google Local Listing".

    when we applied for this process Google wants full detail of our website and business then 2 to 3 weeks Google provide us verification code after verification our website will be listed in Google Places.

    Then for improvement of ranking of this local listing we have to submit our site in local business listing sites...... and also post some Revise for optimization. :rolleyes:

    See the best way to optimize Google places or Maps is by giving reviews on the sites this will be helping in geting noticed by the Google.

    You are right haleymcadams actually Google Map is in more detail about the place you can say that Google map is vast and Google places is just the part of Google Map.
