About MOGmartin and SEOforums.org

About MOGmartin:

This site, SEOforums.org is maintained by myself, Martin ‘MOG’ Macdonald (aka. MOGmartin, or just plain ‘MOG’ on other sites).

I am a full time search engine optimizer and social media marketer based in Central London.  I have been a full time internet marketer since early 2006, although I have been working online in some capacity since 1996.

I currently am Search Marketing Manager, and Social Marketing Manager for Seatwave.com and all its European sites.  In my capacity I oversee all Paid and Organic Search and Social marketing for the group worldwide.  Seatwave are Europe’s largest fan to fan ticket exchange, with over a million tickets listed across Europe, and several million visitors per month.  I have held this position since May 2008.  Seatwave have been listed hundreds of times in top European newspapers, television and other media, and have won numerous awards since inception in 2006.  During my time at Seatwave I have been directly responsible for both the natural (organic) search campaigns, comprising of aggresive link building and on site optimisation, and all paid search activities in 6 languages and 10 countries, with a total handled ad spend well in excess of ten million US dollars.  My team at Seatwave have managed to increase volume several times over, and reduced total cost of customer acquisition by a substantial margin year on year.

Prior to working at Seatwave I was CEO of MOGmedia Ltd, specialising in organic search optimization for the online gambling industries, and during my two years working full time as a consultant and on my own projects in online gambling I succesefully managed to attract over 26,000 signups through organic search and social media.  I sold up my gambling projects in 2008 when I moved to the UK, where I currently reside in rural Kent.

My first online job was in 1996 when I was responsible for the initial setup and subsequent technical support manager for all users at Mercury Internet, one of Spain’s first internet Service providers.

With nearly 15 years of experience online I am lucky enough to be one of the more experienced search marketers, and I have had the opportunity in the last few years to work on many large scale projects with millions of visitors per month.

About This Site:

seo forumsseoforums.org is a non-profit seo forum, seo blog and seo tools site.  When I was first starting out in online promotion in the late 90′s there were only a few sites that had decent information and help and assistance.  I am forever grateful to these sites as they provided me with the bedrock of my understanding of search marketing and without them I never would have developed the career that I have been lucky enough to lead.

Over recent years however, the trend has been for all the leading sites to move to a paid subscription model, which is their business plan and I have no problem with it, infact I am a paid member at most SEO related sites, but still – that leaves the beginner/intermediate/non-professional optimizers with a tough choice, either not have the right tools and good advice, or pay $150+ per month for it.

One of the few remaining free sites, iwebtool.com has become a forum chock-full of spam and most of the tools dont work, and havent for years without being updated. Of the other free sites that remain, Digital Point is too full of beginners and post boosters to be of any real value and most others are too generalised to offer specific search marketing advice.

Well, this site is my payback to the industry that I love – All the tools and advice dispensed on this site and blog are free, and will remain free.

There is no direct advertising on this site so it is not in any way influenced by commercial constraints. The advice we give is all true, heartfelt honest recommendations, not skewed by affiliate relationships etc.

  • I personally think that in 2010 goes on, factors of on-page and off-page search engine optimization will change as we think it. I think we will see a transformation to client metrics in determining ranking results. That combined with increased personalized SERP results and we’ll be seeing a large change of the users experience with Google and the other SEs. Every search result won’t be created alike, just look at things like user involvement, bounce time, bounce rate, etc… Put your energy on a better user experience all around, and I think you’ll see better results in 2010.
