I want to share with you some of the search queries I use in finding links for my niche sites.
Just to save your time, I will make it as short as possible
Here they are :
1. How to Find .edu or .org by Reverse engineering Your Competitors
If you want get .edu back links used by your competitors, please use the following search queries
linkdomain:YourcompetitorURL.com site:.edu
You can follow almost the same procedure to find out .org links pointing to your competitor
Here is how to search .org back-links pointing to your competitors
linkdomain:YourcompetitorDomain.com site:.org
2. How to Find back-links that are linking to your competitors domain, but not your site
linkdomain:Yourcompetitorsite.com -linkdomain:yoursite.com
3. How to find back-links from websites which provide guest post opportunities? use any of the following search queries.
Keyword Phrase + become a contributor OR contribute to this site
Keyword Phrase + guest article
Keyword Phrase + guest blog
Keyword Phrase + guest blogger
Keyword Phrase + Guest bloggers
Guest blogging is also very powerful way to drive high surge of traffic to your website
4. How to find back-links from sites where you can list your website? use any of the following search queries.
Keyword Phrase + add a site/submit site/suggest site
Keyword Phrase + add URL/submit URL/suggest URL
Keyword Phrase + add listing/submit listing/suggest listing
Keyword Phrase +add your business/list your business
Keyword Phrase + intitle:directory
Keyword Phrase+ inurl:directory
5. How to search for a potential back-links that allow commenting? Try any of the following search queries.
Keyword Phrase + "add comment"
Keyword Phrase + "post comment"
Keyword Phrase + "leave comment"
6. How to search for potential back-links from Forum Signature or Profiles? use any of the following search queries.
Keyword Phrase forum
Keyword Phrase discussion boards
Keyword Phrase "sign up OR register OR join"
Keyword Phrase Powered by phpBB OR powered by vBulletin
7. How to Find for potential back-links through sponsoring or donation? use any of the following search queries.
Keyword Phrase + spons* list
Keyword Phrase + partner* list
Keyword Phrase + contribut* list
Keyword Phrase + donor* list
Keyword Phrase + donat* list
Keyword Phrase + support* list
If you want to specifically focus on .org or .edu back-links , then add site:.org or site:.edu to each of the above search queries .
For instance you can search Keyword Phrase + spons* list site:.org

One thing I have noticed is these .edu and .gov blogs are moderated very slowly and it is very tiring to get a blog approved.

I've used the query you suggested for finding .org and .edu links at Google (is there where I'm supposed to use it?) and the results I received were related to the domain used in the query and also referrs made to the kwds herein the domain url.. is my thinking correct?
