HI Guys
I have a website that is setup in the UK and has a basic target market of UK customers. I am quite confused over the use of the domain name. I have the option of opting for a .co.uk domain or a .com domain. What is the benefit of either? Also should I go with a UK based hosting service or US based hosting service? Does it make any difference at all? I believe that the UK based domain would be beneficial for the search sites based in UK. But is that all? Are there any more issues that I should be concerned about?
Thanks a lot

Off Topic Disagree Agree LikeIf you're going with the .co.uk the host location shouldn't matter much, though it's more important if you go with the .com.
Remember you can always choose to set a geographic target in Google Webmaster Tools.

Off Topic Disagree Agree LikeThe .co.uk will do you better. People associate with it well and search engines naturally know who you are targeting.
Hosting in the UK is better as your vistors will get a faster and therefore better experience. Search Engines also pick up where your hosted so being in the UK is also a plus in that way.
All the major search engines regionalise websites and that determines how well they will do around the world. For your determined region you will do better than for the rest of the world.
The first clue is the TLD (Top Level Domain). If that indicates a region then that is where your website will do best. e.g co.uk indicates the UK and .com is classed as unknown.
If you have a TLD that has an unknown region then some search engines (including Google) will use the place your website is hosted to determine your region.
So having a UK domain and hosting is beneficial, if a little more expensive.
As iamacyborg says, if the .com domain is also available get it, and 301 redirect it to the UK domain. This will help you when people think your URL is the .com one.

Off Topic Disagree Agree LikeThe TLD is a huge signal to Google, et al of the target demographic of your website.
