Tips for Increasing Site Traffic via Link Building

The name of the game in online marketing is site traffic. This is the part of ecommerce that offers the best opportunities, and consequently it is the part that is the hardest to master. It’s not just a matter of joining a search engine listing. There are likely to be at least a hundred other businesses on the internet that are involved in the same type of online venture, and all of them are vying for maximum traffic through virtually the same searching options. The key is in being connected by a system of links that can lead potential customers to a particular website. These are tips for increasing site traffic via link building.

The first and obvious step in link building is volume. This means simply using every avenue of click-through possibility to get a searcher to land on any webpage, whether it’s a home page, a product page, or an FAQ section. This is what links are for. The trick is to use the sites that are visited most often. In link building, this is best approached by posting on social network sites and by submitting articles to popular online article sites.

For social networking, the best kind of site to be on will be more of a center of interesting information, rather than those that are strictly for meeting people. YouTube was the first of this kind of site, but there are others now. Any site that posts offerings from their community of members will do. These sites will put up articles, videos, and photos that members submit. They generally do not allow promoting a business, but creating a “top 10” list of related products or services that includes yours is a legal way to use a site like this for link building. Join one of these sites (most are free) and start posting.

Another good approach is to join an online article site. These websites are basically clearinghouses for interesting articles in a wide variety of topics. The good part about using these sites is that they do allow links to be included with an article as reference or footnotes. Here again, a “top 10” approach could be used without overtly advertising any product or service, and sites such as these enjoy a tremendous amount of traffic because they offer such a large variety of topics.

One of the latest innovations in social sites is social “bookmarking” networks. This type of website is a way for “hot” items to be shared within a site’s community, making it more like a heads-up or an alerting mechanism. Having a product, a service, or a link tagged on this kind of social site can lead people to your website. It would also be helpful to have friends and family tag on sites such as this, or any social networking site for that matter. Anything that will cause someone to stop and at least click on a link to see what’s going on increases the potential for them to follow a path to your door.
