  Concentrating with SMM alone won't help, in a way yes but not totally. I suggest do a lot of back links that relevant to your sites, more forum and blog posting too. And try to consider social bookmarking as well. Those will help.

  Well SMM is used for branding.
  For ranking your site on Google 1st page you need to do SEO, its necessary.

  Also its more a question of increasing your presence over the web. I think there should be a healthy combination of both. Plan our your SEO activities in a piece of paper and follow it strictly. Social Media will eventually follow.

  In simple i want to say....SEO is like a cricket. You have to do many of techniques to win the match. Off page, on page, social networking, Social Marketing are necessory if you want to get traffic and PR.
