Is My Google Growth Good or Should I Step It Up?

Our site is about 3 years old and gets between 65-75,000 unique visitors a day.

Traffic from google is around 4,500 a day.

Here is a graph of our google traffic from the last year:

I'm just curious if this growth is good, and it'll just take more time for our google traffic to grow, or if we should start a more aggressive SEO effort.

BTW: Our serps are page 2+, not many page 1 results...

Well, I see a couple of things that are very positive about your site. First of all, your bounce rate is below 30% This is actually quite desirable for an e-commerce site. Almost half of your visitors are new, that means with such a low bounce rate and high rate of new visitors your site is compelling them to stay which is good news.

Your pages per visit show promise as your visitors are taking the time to look around your site and view what is within it. This snapshot is showing that you are in a good position, although I don't know how stable, and you could definitely tweak your SEO as it currently sits. I don't know what exactly your site does but it would be best to make sure you're adding plenty of unique, new content or products. Make sure your articles or descriptions of your products are in depth and draw in your visitors.

Lastly, ensure you are building your backlinks daily if at all possible. If you want to reach page one keep working at what you're doing, expand every day and you will reach number 1 soon enough.

    Thanks qml :)

I was kind of thinking along those lines...

Looks like the site made it through the various algo updates with out a drop in google traffic. Thing that always bothers me is that we get page one results on Bing/Yahoo, but seem to get lost in google.

    Strange to me :(

Google tends to be harder to rank in. First of all, Google has very strict policies and can demote your site for the strangest and most tedious of things. Secondly, the volume of indexing on Google's search engine is larger than other search sites. The best thing to do is make sure you've got plenty of new content coming in. Also, check and make sure your site has minimal redirects as Google tends to devalue your site when it redirects somewhere past the first tier link. Basically, if your site is actually http://example.com and it redirects to http://www.example.com that can cause issues. You can check for redirects using this tool: http://www.ragepank.com/redirect-check/. Also, ensure your keywords and meta information are correct.

If you're having trouble ranking in Google you're not the only one. It can be troublesome trying to fight your way to the top. Make sure you're getting enough exposure and building your backlinks as well. If you'd like you can PM me with your site(top level link) and I can take a look at it and see if there are any issues but other than that your best bet recaps in a list as follows:

    Meta Information
    New, Unique, and Fresh Content
QUALITY backlinks on Blogs and Forums
Update existing material as best possible
Social media sharing of your site

Nice link qml... I failed a ton of those tests... esp with the .php / .aspx / .html etc... on the index page. Changed that up to 301 :)

    I'll shoot you a pm :)
