Default Fairly high ranking, very low visits

      Hi all,

I'm fairly new to SEO, and I have a question.

We have a fishing tackle website, and some of our keywords are getting fairly high rankings now - position 3 or 4 (try feeder rods and fishing waders). These terms have a monthly search volume in excess of 40k.

However, we're getting very low visits reported by our analytic software, less than 27 for the last month for feeder rods, for example.

We're confident that our analytics software is tracking properly; we're appearing 'above the fold'... does anyone have any ideas why visit volume should be so low?

      Many thanks for your help
      Simon

      Hello,

If I understand you correctly, you are saying you have good listings for popular keyphrases but your listings aren't resulting in click through where people visit your site. If so then my opinion is this is a case where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. What I mean is it sounds like your title and subtitle (listings) may not be worded in a way that entices the visitor to click through to your web site. What set's your listing apart from any one of the other hundreds or thousands of listings? I recommend you learn to write effective ads or effective sales copy. You need to catch their attention and make them want to click. It's not just enough to have an ad well positioned in the search engine. You have to have an ENTICING ad that makes people want to get the rest of the story.

      Hope this helps.

Post a link to your site, i'd like to look. Which analytics system? I've found some to be off a bit.

      Happen sometimes in specialized niche.
Check the sites ahead of you and if they are selling the same products.
By normal behavior - searchers click the top results first - its only if they don't find/like thing on them that they go downwards. If top placed sites are selling the same and their quality also good too, t=Iamsorry to say that there is no alternative for you but go for the top spot yourself. It might be little costly, but visitors and conversion will be great.

so tiny traffic on such a specialized search term is nothing unusual, some of my better converting sites might only get a handful of visitors per day, but if your niche is so tightly defined in theory the conversion rate if the site is built well and has a good user experience should be pretty substantial.

Id concentrate less on raw traffic, and look more at your net benefit per visitor and make sure you are maximizing that aspect of your site.
