why to Redirect Non www urls to www?

Will it effect the page rank of the site if there is no redirection to urls without www(d.com). What is the use of redirecting it from d.com to www(.)d(.)com?

I've been wondering this myself late too. I don't think it makes too much of a difference but I don't know anything for sure.

You should decide to a format and stick to it, as Google views www. and non www. as different sites, as www. is technically a sub domain. While there's not much chance of being penalized for duplicate content, as it will be recognized as same domain, there will be problems concerning the link building effort, as the links going to www.domain.com will not have effect on http://domain.com.
