I signed up with Google Analytics a few months ago; it has been really helpful in starting to understand my visitors (where they're from and how their browsing the site, for example).
I have made a few changes to my site as I have seen how many people are visiting each page, how long they're staying there for and much more. More changes will be made shortly.
Would you agree that it's fair to so web analysis is perhaps one of the most important aspects of SEO? I.e, to understand how your site is being used.
Do you use any Analytics tools that you could recommend? Maybe a silly question, but how do you analyise your results (i.e. how do you look at results to make improvements to your site?)

Google Analytics is very good tool and provides all necessary information that a webmaster needs. But I want to introduce a new tool that is statcounter.com. It is free and offers same information like Google Analytics.

Google analytics is VERY inaccurate.
Try this: Do a search for an string of words that brin up your site. Make sure the string of words is so unique that there is no way possible that anyone else could have looked for your site using those word. Click on your site in the Google results .... a few days later, check your Google analyticis to see how many times Google reports that this keyword string was used.

Have to disagree with you there mate, Google Analytics is very reliable, as long as your site is getting less than around 1.2million unique visitors per month. Once you go over that threshold you are looking at sampled data so you dont have 100% accuracy, but if you are getting over a million visitors a month, chances are you have your own inhouse analytics software, that would be far more accurate based on server logs.

Google Analytics is good than any other web analytics package I have ever used. There is a bit of a learning curve, but well worth it to analyze your visitors...

I love Google Analytics and the first time I installed in on my site it was a real eye opener! In terms of the things I find useful to measure it's
1. Goal Conversion. Setting up a custom report that allows you to see what keyword triggered the conversion is incredibly useful data. Goal conversion can be implemented even if you're not an Ecommerce store. For example, you run a report based on the amount of time visitors stayed on the site versus keyword it can help you understand what your most effective keywords are.
2. Overlap reports show you what links visitors actually click and therefore what parts of your site they're really interetsed in.

Google Analytics (GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Its main highlight is that the product is aimed at marketers as opposed to webmasters and technologists from which the industry of web analytics originally grew. It is the most widely used website statistics service, currently in use at around 40% of the 10,000 most popular websites.
GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.
