Thread: Hey, Quick advice on linkbuilding and does Google Analytics count bots as visitors?

Hey,New to these forums and to site building/promoting and SEO in general so go easy on me Was just wondering. I opened an ecommerce site over just one month ago and i wanted to find out the best ways of promoting it. I packed it with low competition keywords.I have two important questions.1. Linkbuilding. Whats the most effective way? I have a facebook page for my site which I regularly update with news and links to my site. I have opened a twitter page. I have also joined a major forum related to my site topic which I have put my site url as my signature so everytime I post my url pops up below my post. Do those count as good links? I've been also wondering about one of those 'find link tools' where you type in a keyword and sites related to yours pop up and you can add your url. I'm not sure of those especially the one on this site - is it harmful to your google ranking if you use those link exchange directories or tools?I have also ventured into blog writing for my site so I would love to have tips on how I could use that to boost my visibilty.Any other tips for a noob like me would be welcome 2. Google Analytics. How accurate is it? My site has been open for a month and my unique visitors per day has been steadily rising..from 0-5 the first few days and now about 40 visitors a dqy. How accurate is it? Is it including bots and spiders? Because if thats the case I'm in for a huge disappointment since I thought these were humans.*Please help me with these two questions and I'll really appreciate if you have any advice you could offer me.Big thanks, Harry.

Welcome to the forums Harry!

First of all, your site is only a month old so you will need to be patient as it takes a bit of time to gain some trust with Google. There's lots of way to build links from more general stuff like social bookmarking (do -follow), directory submissions, article submissions and so on. Outside of this you can try some more targeted stuff like link mining, searching through the highly ranked sites on your keywords and finding where to get link, competitive link analysis (finding sites who link to your competitors and trying to get links there).

Analytics excludes the visits from its own spiders so the numbers you are seeing are people, including yourself unless you set analytics up to exclude visits from your IP address. That's all I've got mate, it's finishing time here at the office and the weekend awaits! Good luck!

Can someone explain to me what directory and article submissions are? I guess you write an article and submit it to forums? If so I have tried that before and I've been banned for "advertising"

Secondly, Is 40 visitors a day good for an eccomerce site that has been up for only a month?

directory submission is basically site listing like dmoz.org where you can post your site link and a small description of your site. article submission on the other hand is a bit more work because you have to take time writing that. in your article, make sure it's not spammy or directly advertising your company. make it so as if you are helping somebody. search engine will definitely like that.
