Default Moving down a 'negative' result?

Hi everyone...

First off, I'm not a businessman or someone looking to start a website. I'm just a normal person who's not in a position to buy webspace or advertising or whatever. I've done some research on this problem, and most of the sites assume that I'm the former. At the same time, while I realize this forum mostly deals with this type of thing, I was hoping someone could still help me with this as it's a somewhat related concern.

Basically, someone posted personal information about me with some slander thrown in on the comments for a blog. The webhosts refused to take it down. For the most part, however, these results showed up on Google's fifth ranking page or so, so I wasn't too worried being that apparently very few people click beyond the first couple of pages.

Now, however, someone else made a comment on the blog and (I'm guessing this is the reason why) now the blog's at #1, so this is the first thing someone sees when searching for my name.

So my questions are:

1. Will this site go back down on it's own eventually? It's not a professional blog, it's just some schmuck with wordpress and I can't imagine it receives too much traffic.

and if not

2. What are some ways that I can lower it myself? I don't 'own' any websites, but I do have some networking pages (Facebook) as well as some articles I've written elsewhere for my local newspaper that are online. Are there any easy/free ways I can move these sites up?

Thanks for your help!

Um are you a cheat or bad person? lol.

If you are innocent, you can threaten to sue the webmasters for slander. Most will take it down when threatened with legal action.

If what they have written is true, you are pretty much screwed.

Will the search for your name go down? Probably not. Unless you have 100s of websites with your name/info on it, that site will probably keep on ranking #1.

But in theory the internet is a free land where people can post whatever they want.

Not a whole lot you can do but maybe refute the claims on the said website.

No, I'm very much 'innocent', thanks for asking. If I was doing something dishonest on the internet, I wouldn't be stupid enough to use my real name.

The person who added my name was a troll on Wikipedia who was adding obscenities and 'shock' images on Wikipedia (Goatse, etc). I made the mistake of reverting his edits and he latched onto me soon after once he was banned. I really don't want to waste hundreds of dollars getting a lawyer involved--it's not THAT important to me, and since the guy's anonymous, nothing's stopping him from posting it elsewhere.

On Google, there's at least a 100 results with my name on it one form or another. This URL in question used to be on the fifth page of results. It just rose back up recently because someone else added a comment on the blog. If it moves back to the fifth page, I won't have a problem. I just wanted to know the odds of it migrating back to its original spot.

All blog post go down in ranking, sooner or later. But I think you're worried for nothing. Most likely you're the victim of Google personalization - since October it's a opt-out feature. Check the ranking of that website from a fresh browser - clear cache, clear cookies, sign out your Google account-, or another computer, see what ranking you see for that blog.
Usually, the lifespan of a post is about a week, but if there are many comments, additions, etc, it's lifespan can be increased. The previous reply had a point, contacting the webmaster or even the service provider about the issue could solve this very fast, usually there's a long way to go to a trial. Just check who hosts the site and fill out a complaint form.

I've tried to fill out a complaint form but it didn't get me anywhere. I just did a quick Google search on a college computer and it's still at #1--although for an hour or so yesterday it had moved to #2, so maybe its fluctuating.

The site in question is wikipediaocd.wordpress.com, if that helps anyone as to determining how 'popular' it is.

So you have emailed wordpress.com right? If not do so. Also make a post on the forums because that might attract users so a mod will look at it eventually and deal with your problem. The forums are http://en.forums.wordpress.com/.

P.S. I couldn't really find there email lol so you coudl try reporting it as a spam blog or contacting the engineers using the link below http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I've actually contacted Wordpress and posted on their forums about the matter, and they refused to help unless I sent a court order to them.

You can drown out negative publicity if you post some positive things. Maybe write a blog about the unresponsiveness of the services in question. Write these blogs on websites who compete with the 'unresponsives' directly. If you have truth on your side you'll succeed.

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble, it stinks.

Thanks, I'll see what I can do. And thanks to everyone else who helped.

J/w, if I were to PM someone the links here...would they be able to find out why it would still be high up? Like if someone added a special tag to it? Is that possible to find?
