Thread: Will I be punished for duplicate meta names?

Hi,

I have a website built on WordPress which before the conversion to WP was (and still is) ranking quite well on google.ie. I've added a few plugins and now I see that in the source code of some pages, things like "keyword" and "description" appear near the top of the source but also appear under a section of source code inserted by the plugin "Wordpress SEO" by Joast.

My question is whether it's ok to leave it alone or should I remove one of the meta names to avoid being punished by google for being spammy.

Its called duplicate meta names, I think you should removed manual inserted meta names and keep plugin meta names

I think one lot would be enough. I don't think it would be classed as spammy unless you over did it.

You shouldn't be penalised but Google webmasters tools always advises that you should try to avoid duplicate tags to improve the visitors experience when on site.

In a technical sense you won't be punished but if you have multiple pages that could rank well for certain keywords they won't in the same way pages with duplicate content don't rank, only the first copy Google has found...

Yes, it is only get effect if Google find the first copy. So till date there is no harm. Duplicate Meta not harms so much but lately it get effect which reduce website's reputation so remove duplicate and kept the only one meta than weight...

Duplicate meta tag google do not prefer if remove your duplicate meta tag keep original tag

I think the point would be sufficient. I do not believe it as spam on it unless he did.
