How to get first page

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to SEO. You all have done a very good job in SEO. In this post, I just want to show what I have studied and understood about SEO, especially regarding how to get on the first page. If anyone finds it incomplete, I'm more than happy to listen to your thought.
The idea here is what I got from the website: bitdoze

The key ideas are:
1) Good Content: You have to create articles with high quality content.
2) BackLinks: there are generally 4 ways to do this.
+Pay for links
+Gaining links by building profile on hubpages, squido and so on
+Article Writing:
This is an easy and free way to get backlinks to your site/article. Just write 10 original articles, insert the keyword in the author bio and submit the articles to some dofollow article directories and blogs that accept guest bloggers.
+Other ways: forums, blogging

    I just found an article about how to boost traffic using Youtube. I quite like this statement:
    "By having the right keywords, tags and descriptions, your video can quite easily jump many thousands of webpages and come up in high in search results because of ‘blended’ search results provided by Google. Do a search for anything and you will often see videos in the first page of search results."

    Yes content and backlinks are the key factors for good ranking. If you've quality content and high page ranked backlinks then your site will improve its ranking towards 1st page automatically.

    Article submission is always good for traffic as well as google ranking. You can post your article in your website blogs.

    This is correct. You just need to create great content and then create quality links from article directories, forums, blogs and many other sources. Its always recommended to collect links from quality and relative sites to your own. If you complete all of these and carry on with it you will see your site in the top positions very soon.

    1. Find Some Long Tail Keywords For Your Niche
    Use the Google Keyword Tool (or another service like Market Samurai or Word Tracker) to find some “long tail” keywords in your niche that get between 10-40 searches per day. This is what I like to call “below the radar” traffic as these kinds of phrases usually have very low competition because most marketers tend to discard them and focus instead on higher traffic keywords that have upwards of around 80 searches per day.
    2. Create A Slideshow Presentation
    You can do this in Powerpoint or Keynote (if you use a Mac). The slides can be on a topic relevant to your niche. 10-15 slides will do and, if possible, try to create a kind of “cliff-hanger” towards the end which will encourage viewers to head to your website or blog for the solution to their problems.
    3. Turn Your Presentation Into A Video
    There are a couple of ways to do this. First you can use a program like Camtasia (which has a Powerpoint Add-in) to record the slide show and turn it into an MP4 video file. Second, you can output your presentation as a slide show and then upload it to a service such as authorSTREAM which will allow you to create an MP4 video.

    All very good information, thanks. Im new at SEO, and just learning the ropes. RE the long tail keywords, are these always quite important? I mean, If I could either focus on high-traffic keywords, or long-tail, which should I go for? Thanks

    Please focus on back link so.
    back link is more important for getting a good page rank.
