Default Smo

SMO (social media optimization )is a relatively new term. It stands for social media
Optimization and goes along with the phenom of “Web 2.0.” SMO is another technique to help a website or brand show up in the search engines.
SMO basically includes placing a website/person/product/service on the various social media networks (Face book, Ning, My Space, Linked In, etc.), and social bookmaking sites (delicious, Mixx, Back Flip, Digg) so that the search engines see more inbound links.

LOL yea, seems pretty obvious, didn't really add asny value to the topic !!!!!!

@MOGMartin - would be good to keep on top of these posts somehow - they're pretty annoying and they don't add anything. Just my two cents

I totally agree - I used to take a very hard line on this kind of post on my last forum, but then there were 16,000 active members and thousands of posts per day - so it needed tight control. This time I will let it slide, but in future, once we have some "official" rules in place a post to boost post count without adding any value will be an infractionable offence.

IMHO DigitalPoint has been ruined by this kind of post, its something that every board must overcome, but right now with limited members its not the time to start..

thanks anyway for bringing it to my attention!

Cheers

Default Dodgy Posts

sounds good, but must be difficult with so many users.

What I would say about this social media stuff is it's not just about creating links but about creating a community of interest around your main key phrases so that you're effectively creating 'clouds' of activity within the social media space - this is how it was described to me at a recent seminar. High end stuff if you ask me and very time intensive but as usual with SEO if you're pockets are deep enough then it could be part of the plan.

Yeah, I agree, its something that Im actively taking part in now, but I think its a fuzzy line between social media marketing and online reputation management, for instance we have some clearly defiined rules now for Twitter conversations where we engage with consumers who are looking for assistance, but dont engage with people who are just having a general conversation or gripe about our brand.

This kind of thing whilest not strictly "search marketing" forms part of the larger online marketing that as SEO's we must adhere to. Its not my main area of expertese, but its something that we will all have to get much more involved with in 2010, as the web finally becomes something like it was always meant to me, realtime social networking (I wrote a blog post about that very fact around 4 years ago when NING was launched, titled something like "web2.0 is here, isnt it what the web was always meant to be?).

Social media optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for attracting visitors to website content by promoting and publicizing it through social media. SMO is a subset of social media marketing, which is promoting and publicizing products and services in general through social media. SMO is one of two online methods of optimizing (attracting visitors to) website content; the other method is search engine optimization (SEO).

Although it sounds confusing, social media optimization is basically generating traffic to your sites through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and submission sites like Digg. When properly executed, social profiles on social networking sites improve your image, build your brand, and send more traffic to your website. It could also mean adding a Digg button or tell-a-friend button on your website to allow your readers to submit the article to the social media community.

. The advantages of using these are that you draw more traffic to your website. More traffic to your website may lead to more affiliate sales for you.

Just when everyone’s figured out SEO, in comes another buzz word acronym: SMO, aka social media optimization. While the discipline of social media optimization is not nearly as advanced as SEO, it still holds a wealth of potential for the website owner. How can a business begin to optimize their site for social media? The following article will share some practical ideas.

The quintessential social media site is myspace. Myspace is completely user generated, in other words, all the content comes not from some mega corporation, but the users themselves. Other examples of social media sites are Facebook, Digg, del.icio.us, and Squidoo. Basically, a social media site creates a community of people with similar interests, and allows them
to network and communicate on any given topic.
